On women playing the role of lector

Women's likes to read
I kind of stood back for awhile on this issue because it seemed so obvious to me - the solution that is - that I figured someone would state the obvious.

Its not about whether having women fill the lector role at Mass is wrong (that seems plain). Nor is it about laymen in general.

Simply put, there is no reason why the priest cannot read all the propers and lectionary during mass.  It is not that hard to do so.  It is not necessary to clericalize laymen, but rather to teach them the dignity that their state affords them.

Stop the abuse of "active participation".

Fr. Hollowell:"Mass Needs to Be Just What I Want"

"My Faith isn't shaken by crappy Church architecture
My Faith isn't shaken by music at Mass that is off key and strained
My Faith isn't shaken by bored servers dressed in ratty garb
My Faith isn't shaken by there not being a communion rail
My Faith isn't shaken by priests celebrating Mass facing the people
My Faith isn't shaken by Mass trending towards a cult of personality around the celebrant
My Faith isn't shaken by 48 people distributing Holy Communion at every Mass

The problem is...I'M NOT THE STANDARD FOR WHAT MASS SHOULD BE!

The Church's requirements for the Mass aren't based on what will or will not affect MY PERSONAL Faith

The Church has set up the Mass in a certain way so as to help strengthen the Faith of people who visit and DON'T know what we believe when they walk in.

St John Vianney, Blessed Mother Teresa, St. Francis and countless others preached and lived RADICAL POVERTY but also wrote extensively and also actually built beautiful Churches, secured beautiful vestments, etc."

Read the rest of his post HERE (BTW, can someone inform Deacon Kandra and the Patheos folks that female lectors are not necessary... is it really that hard for the priest to read all three letters?)

Chris Farley's friend Matt Foley finally breaks his silence

Pre-ordained Matt Foley with Chris Farley for a Rugby Photo
“After the funeral, Farley's mother asked Foley not to give any interviews. The media was hungry for details of Farley's life and death from anyone close to the comedian in his last days. He obliged.
Last year, though, Foley got a call from Mrs. Farley, who asked him to participate in the "I Am Chris Farley" documentary. He agreed and sat for a two-hour interview talking about his friend and reminiscing about old times.
Like when Farley had just moved into a new apartment in New York and asked his ordained friend to come bless it.
Foley was walking around the apartment sprinkling holy water when he turned around and saw Farley following him, his hands folded like an altar server, quietly reciting the Hail Mary and Our Father prayers to himself.
"He was completely serious, but it cracked me up because it was just the two of us there and he looked so funny with his hands folded," Foley remembered. ‘But he was dead serious, and there was a tenderness in his face. It was a beautiful thing.’”
