“… Cardinal Spellman, as he opened
the debate on November 10, asserted that, with the introduction of some
modifications, the text could be accepted. Spellman denounced the risks of the
so called modernization or “updating” of religious life, in an implicit polemic
against Cardinal Suenens who in a book devoted to the Apostolic Development of the Religious Women (published in English
as the Nun in the world), had
proposed a radical reform of women’s religious life and saw in Vatican Council
II the opportunity to carry it out. This reform, for the primate of Belgium,
would have to redefine the role of women religious, by giving them an adequate “social
training” and by making them spiritual directors of lay women. To this end it
would be necessary to eliminate mercilessly certain “out of date” and “redundant”
devotions that tended to “make the life of prayer mechanical and to atrophy it,”
and to transform the “spiritual exercises of women religious so as “to amend
and simplify them, to give their piety a a more biblical, liturgical,
ecclesiastical and apostolic basis.”
Cardinal Suenens invited nuns to be
more sincere and open in their mutual relations and to engage in “constructive
self-criticism” of their religious practices.” He added that women religious
must avoid giving the impression of “living outside the world they are trying
to save,” as though isolated in a ghetto; the religious habit will have to be
completely adapted to relations with the world and dispense with forms and
rituals that no longer are part of our era. The concept of “obedience” also
will have to be revise: the renunciation of one’s own will must not be placed
before the service of the common good. The common good sometimes requires that
subjects assert their point of view before superiors make a decision…
Bishop Guilly found it “truly surprising”
that the schema on religious contained “so little about the other orders and
congregations that are dedicated strictly to contemplative life.” It is
precisely ‘these men and these women who with their prayers and their
austeritites, their silence and their sacrifices, contribute more than all the
others to the advancement of the Church’s apostolate.”
So, this is another line by line response to more ignorance spewed
by ignorant media types and katholics.
Please CNN find an editor that actually knows the faith so they can edit
out the slanders and misunderstandings perpetualted in this work and others on

American writer: “No matter what, I’m still Catholic”

Mary Elizabeth Williams thinks the Vatican is strict, dogmatic,
and backward-looking [blah, blah blah, in other words she remains ignorant of their
“faith” and loves the world oh so much.
Nothing new here more statements made to divide people]. She is also a
committed Catholic[So she hates what the Church
teaches but she continues to profess the Faith? What does she profess? The Church isn’t a denomination but the only
Church Christ established with his authority to teach. Catch that His authority, not a man’s
authority].
With so much scandal [the homosexual priests getting in in the
first place is a scandal that they did disordered things only follows, they
need repent as the rest of us and be faithful to the teachings of Holy Mother
Church] and conservatism on the key issues of today[Those meanie conservatives always standing in-between you and
continued debauchery, and building Sodom and Gommorah all over again, what a
pity],it is not unreasonable to ask why progressive Catholics stay in
the Church [This is how you know the person completely lacks knowledge of the
faith. The Church is neither
conservative nor progressive, she like her divine spouse is eternal her truths aren’t
judged by todays ideology, but todays ideologies are indeed judged by the
Church who has Authority from the Blessed Trinity to do so. There is no such thing as a progressive or
conservative Catholic, only orthodox or heterodox].
“I think to be questioning, and to call out hypocrisy, and to
illuminate injustice when you see it is about as Christ-like as you can get,”
Williams told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Tuesday.[Ok so….the
teachings or the people are wrong…come on you don’t understand the faith….infallibility
is not impeccability].
After Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation earlier this
month, Williams, a writer, penned an op-ed titled “No matter what, I’m still
Catholic.” [Could have been more honest saying “No matter what I am not going
to learn the whys for the whats, but will continue to fight against a personally
perceived injustice”]
“What I would hope, and what I think we see based on just the
stepping down of this pope, is that the Church realizes that it is in a moment
of extreme crisis,” [First things shes got right thus far…applause is due] she
said. “I don’t expect to see gigantic change, but I do expect to see a message
that says, ‘Our priorities are going to be different from now on.’” [On what,
the teachings are the teachings, and don’t change…I think you confuse the
Catholic Faith with Protestant sects that don’t have authority in the first
place to make doctrinal statements].
As cardinals begin to gather in Rome to elect a new pope, Williams
says she is hoping for more consistency between the Vatican and the reality of
life for the billion-plus Catholics around the world [In other words don’t just
be in the World, but be of it, after all truth is what you make it…right? I mean truth is subjective…wait truth took on
flesh dwelled, was crucified and resurrected, so no actually it is objective
whether or not you like it doesn’t matter].
“What we see in parishes across the world, certainly I see it in
my own parish, is so different from what we hear coming out of Rome,” [Again the
same misunderstanding that authority to teach does not rest in her subjective
mind, but in the Keys granted to Peter and the Bishops in union with him.] she
said, which she described as “very strict, very dogmatic, and a very
backward-looking worldview.” [See first memo above]
As a child, Williams recounted, she fought and lost a battle to
become an “altar girl.” [Appealing to emotions over authority nice…touché. But just because she was denied makes no
difference. No one has a right to be an Altar anything].
“When I now go to my church and I see girls up there on the
altar,”[See indult. This is a
misunderstanding, because the altar server is not ordained but is the helper of
the Alter-Christos, usually the first step in promoting a boys vocation to the
priesthood].she said, “that to me represents an understanding, and a little
bit of progress.” [No progress because the altar server is not ordained and is a discipline
that can be changed if necessary like fish on Friday or even celibacy. For instance some dioceses still ban “altar
girls” and have actually seen increasing vocations since…but no correlation im
sure….right].
It is progress she has not seen reflected by her pope. [Misleading
statement again, CNN please hire someone who knows the faith to edit for
misunderstandings]
“We live in a different world now,” [See we
really can’t believe what they did before they didn’t have the knowledge we
have today. We are so smart be even kill
children calling them embryos to confuse, contracept ending the lines of future
generations and creating a misunderstanding of the biological reason for the marital
act, and so forth. The world is always
changing and the Church is there to call it back to the teachings the Creator
gave his people, not the other way around] she said, “and I think that
the Church has revised itself philosophically in the past, [where?] There’s
no reason that it can’t revise itself philosophically in the future, [On
what?] and take an attitude that’s just more encompassing.” [On what…come
on we know the talking points]
It is important, she believes, for Catholics to keep up their
pressure on the Church’s leadership to change. [Christ didn’t set up a
democracy, but gave to Peter the Keys to loose and bind, to teach all
nations. But to you no authority is
given but obedience to Christ who is the Church necessary].
“We need,” Williams said, “to have people understand that for a
lot of us, Catholicism isn’t about towing some backwards-looking line. [No its more
like hey I’m ok your ok, we are all ok. Let’s
all be joyful hold hands and believe whatever makes you feel good…what that’s Protestantism…ah you’re an Episcopalian] It’s about living a
faith that is about service, and is about love, and is about compassion.” [Love
demands obedience, “If you love me you will keep my commands]
So I was looking through the news and what a shock THE NUNS ARE UNDER ATTACK, oh wait its just more propaganda, so since this story was in my local paper (originating from NYT) I feel inclined to say something
Catholic nuns are not the prissy traditionalists (of course one must reference Urban dictionary to find prissy's common definition: stuck up, goody-two-shoes, self-centered, all-knowing, hard to please biatches; I guess we are just far too self centered to want to see them proclaiming the full Gospel, what a bunch of biatches)of caricature. No, nuns rock!(like these guys to the right:)
They were the first feminists, (women set apart for Christ or the world one must wonder) earning doctorates or working as surgeons long before it was fashionable for women to hold jobs. As managers of hospitals, schools and complex bureaucracies, they were the first female CEOs. (see ladies thats what will make all your dreams come true just ask men, money, thats right money power and on and on)
They are also among the bravest, toughest and most admirable people in the world. In my travels, I've seen heroic nuns defy warlords, pimps and bandits. (The Lord is their Shepard) Even as bishops (all those wretched bishops were in on it... remember when she was talking about caricatures in the first paragraph, liberal slim) have disgraced the church by covering up the rape of children (thats not to say shilling for the murder of Children is ok, right? Im confused. Lord have mercy on us all), nuns have redeemed it (Christ redeems his Church through people, perfect time for catechisis, people sin, God saves) with their humble work on behalf of the neediest.
So, Pope Benedict, all I can say is: You are crazy to mess with nuns. (ask Ananias and Sapphira about Peter)
The Vatican issued a stinging reprimand of American nuns this month and ordered a bishop to oversee a makeover of the organization that represents 80% of them. In effect, the Vatican accused the nuns of worrying too much about the poor and not enough about abortion and gay marriage(correction they were so focused on political issues like lining their own pockets so as to provide welfare that they activly taught against the churches doctrines (teachings) thats why, because its the Bishops responsibility as a successor to the Apostles to Loose and Bind, and finally they do so. Glory to God).
What Bible did that come from? Jesus in the Gospels repeatedly talks about poverty and social justice, yet never explicitly mentions either abortion or homosexuality(wrong, you try to seperate Christ, he is Eternal, the same God who spoke through the Old Testiment that condemned such acts (not the attraction, but the act), is the same one who speaks through the Gospels lifting marrage to its true place of importance between a man and a women, and through Paul and elsewhere here). If you look at who has more closely emulated Jesus' life, Benedict or your average nun, it's the nun hands down.(I seem to remember Arch-Bishop Fulton Sheen talking about the Patron saint of Social Justice here
Since the papal crackdown on nuns, they have received an outpouring of support. "Nuns were approached by Catholics at Sunday liturgies across the country with a simple question: 'What can we do to help?' " The National catholic (fixed, AKA Fishwrap) Reporter counted. It cited one parish where a declaration of support for nuns from the pulpit drew loud applause and another that was filled with shouts like, "You go, girl!" (is this what the Mass is a gathering of people to discuss, this doesn't sound Catholic, sounds rather touchy feely protestant to me. Its a Holy Sacrifice, not a get together, bow your heads and ask for forgiveness)
At least four petition drives are under way to support the nuns (I seem to remember Jesus' take on democracy: here, notice his acceptance of who people thought he was, and yet it continues to this day, silly pagans). One on Change.org has gathered 15,000 signatures. The headline for this column comes from an essay by Mary E. Hunt, a catholic theologian (better pronounced Heretic, but I digress) who is developing a proposal for Catholics to redirect some contributions from local parishes to nuns.
"How dare they go after 57,000 dedicated women whose median age is well over 70 (praised be Jesus Christ, the Young Nuns want nothing to do with the socialists, and actually know Pope Leos Writings on Social Justice, not just parts) and who work tirelessly for a more just world?"(notice how justice isn't defined its like Jello you see) Hunt wrote. "How dare the very men who preside over a church in utter disgrace due to sexual misconduct and cover-ups by bishops try to distract from their own problems by creating new ones for women religious?"(Is this really what constitutes an argument now? Come on really. Those Bishops who did such terrible things have long since been gone leaving their successors to clean up their Mess, you dont leave Jesus because of Judas)
Sister Joan Chittister, a prominent Benedictine nun, said she had worried at first that nuns spend so much time with the poor that they would have no allies. She added that the flood of support had left her breathless.
"It's stunningly wonderful," she said. "You see generations of laypeople who know where the sisters are - in the streets, in the soup kitchens, anywhere where there's pain. They're with the dying, with the sick, and people know it." (and if you read the CDF's letter they commend this over and over again, this is not an argument)
I have a soft spot for nuns because I've seen firsthand that they sacrifice ego, safety and comfort to serve some of the neediest people on Earth.(agreed, but if they are leading people into error they are not leading them to Christ, the two go hand in hand)
I'm betting on the nuns to win this one. (Win what a popularity contest, Christ didnt promise popularity: And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved)After all, the sisters may be saintly, but they're also crafty(serpent like ehh?). Elias Chacour, a prominent Palestinian archbishop in the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, recounts in a memoir that he once asked a convent if it could supply two nuns for a community literacy project. The mother superior said she would have to check with her bishop.
"The bishop was very clear in his refusal to allow two nuns," the mother superior told him later. "I cannot disobey him in that." She added: "I will send you three nuns!" (He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me; dissenters and Heretics have disobeyed since the beginning, see Judas, see Arius, see all the Heretics throughout the Church's History and one thing is clear, She burys her enemies, Peters sword is sharp you know).
Nuns have triumphed over an errant hierarchy before. In the 19th century, the Catholic Church excommunicated an Australian nun named Mary MacKillop after her order exposed a pedophile priest. MacKillop was eventually invited back to the church and became renowned for her work with the poor. In 2010, Benedict canonized her as Australia's first saint. (notice how she knew it was wrong and followed church teaching, for more on her watch the video below, oh by the way that Terrible Benedict cannonized her, wow he must be really odd hes both evil and Good, try harder libs you get tangled in twine)
"Let us be guided" by MacKillop's teachings, the pope declared then.
